J2O REBRAND - PACKAGING

08:00

Whilst a percentage of my course mates were slaving away on a gruelling 10,000 word dissertation,  my group and I were embarking on an exciting (slightly daunting) group project. We took on the challenge of re branding the soft drink J20. Our demographic was 25-35 year old men and women. Through thorough research, I mean 200 pages plus of research, we decided to brand J20 as a mixer for alcohol. We wished to target previous drinkers of J20 who perhaps drank it in their younger years but now had grown out of it. By re branding J20 to look more 'grown up' we were hoping to spark nostalgia and brand loyalty that used to be present and make it acceptable to drink this in a club environment.

To introduce the mixer idea, we created a new flavour Lemon & Lime J20. As our research suggested that Gin was making a come back, we thought that this would be the ideal mixer to accompany this popular alcohol.

We gave existing flavours a design reboot and also suggested what alcohol these flavours would go well with. Apple and Mango was designed to mix with Rum, creating a tropical cocktail. Orange and Passion fruit was marketed as the ideal mixer for Vodka, as Orange and Vodka is already a popular drink combination.

Bottles would come in 3 formats, a 1.5lt share bottle, 150ml individual bottles and a 4 pack of 120ml bottles. We think variety is important, J20 currently does not provide a share bottle and their individual bottles are few and far between and usually made from plastic. Material are very important to our new brand identity, we chose a matte glass similar to that of brands such as Grey Goose and an aluminium screw top. Multi packs have had a redesign as they were very flimsy and hard to hold, adding a handle will improve customers ease moving the bottles.
